SUMMER PACKAGE PASVIK VALLEY

This package provides all Kirkenes Highlights and excursions in Pasvik valley. Pasvik is known for its unique nature and the biggest brown bear population in Norway. 

TRAVEL PROGRAMME  

DAY 1:

Arrival by plane or Costal Steamer (Hurtigrute), pick up and transfer to the Hotel in Kirkenes.

SIGHTSEEING TO THE RUSSIAN BORDER AND THE MINING TOWN BJØRNEVATN

A guided trip by bus to the Russian border and to the iron ore mines in Bjørnevatn. Our first stop is “Skafferhullet”, the historical border crossing between Norway and Russia. We visit the border and have a glance at the Russian community of Boris Gleb on the other side.Your guide will provide information on the various historical events which took place in this area.We continue to the mining town Bjørnevatn which has gone through dramatic changes the last years.The mines were closed in 1996 and will reopen again in 2009. Here we gain an insight into 90 years of mining history.We continue our trip to the viewpoint “Storfjell” where we get a nice view over the fjord. On our way back to Kirkenes we will stop at a souvenir shop with local products (possibility for shopping).

DINNER AT GABBA RESTAURANT

Want to taste a typical fish dinner in the cosiest restaurant in town? It is only 1500 meters and you are here. Arctic charr grilled by the open fire, baked potatoes. Ice cream and forest berries.

While waiting for the dinner you can visit the cute huskies and

beautiful reindeer. We will meet at the gate of the Gabba Park for this tour.

Optional: You can also try our Scandinavian sauna for Nok 100,- per person (min. 4 persons).

DAY 2:
Breakfast and check out. Pick up at the hotel 13.00.

ACTIVITY KING CRAB SAFARI: We guarantee the largest and freshest King Crabs in the World. Join us for ice fishing by snowmobile/boat (depends on ice conditions) and catch this giant that can reach 2 metres and weigh up to 15 kilos. Enjoy fresh crab for lunch in the fjordside restaurant, after a unique multimedia presentation. After the trip back to Kirkenes and transfer to the National Park Centre in Pasvik valley (40 min), 40 km south of Kirkenes.

ADVENTURE DAY IN PASVIK VALLEY AND BOAT TRIP ALONG THE NORWEGIAN RUSSIAN BORDER: A guided trip by buss to the Pasvik valley. The valley is one of the last wilderness areas in Europe and known for its big brown bear population. You get both, a nice nature experience and information about the interesting history of this area right beside Russia. We visit the chapel and the National Park Centre which provides information about fauna and flora. Next stop is the viewpoint “Høyde 96” where you can visit the observation tower. Fantastic view over the border into the Russian neighbourhood Nikel. We serve coffee/ tea and cookies before starting the boat trip from our base “Solvang Gård” in the beautiful nature of the Pasvik Valley. We go on board and start our boat trip on the Pasvik River to experience the nice nature and Russia on the other side of the river. The boat trip takes 1,5 h with several stops on our way. We go ashore on a small island which is half Russian and half Norwegian. This is as close you can get to the Russian border! After the boat trip we will sit down around the fire place and enjoy a light meal + coffee/tea. A very personal tour with much information about history, nature and the way of living in the North.

DAY 4: Breakfast, check out and transfer to the airport or to the coastal steamer

Option: On DAY 4 we can organize a DAYTRIP TO RUSSIA: visit in our neighbourhoods Nikel and Zapoljanry including transfer, guide, lunch and invitation letter for the visa. Duration: 8 hours.
