KI31 Sightseeing to the Norwegian-Russian border and the mining community Bjørnevatn
A guided trip by bus to the Russian border and the iron ore mines in Bjørnevatn. Our first stop is Skafferhull, the historical crossing point on the border between Norway and Russia. We visit the border and have views of the Russian community of Boris Gleb on the other side. Your guide will provide information on the various historical events which took place in this area. We continue to the mining town Bjørnvatn which has gone throug dramatic changes the last years. The mines were closed in 1996 and will reopen again in 2009. Here we gain an insight into 90 years of mining history. We continue our trip to the viewpoint "Storfjell" where we get a nice view over the fjord. On our way back to Kirkenes we will stop at a souvenir shop with local products (possibility for shopping).
