KS 6 Kirkenes sightseeing & Russian border
A guided trip by bus to the Russian border and the iron ore mines in Bjørnevatn. Our first stop is “Skafferhullet”, the historical crossing point on the border between Norway and Russia. We visit the border and have views of the Russian community of Boris Gleb on the other side. Your guide will provide information on the various historical events which took place in this area. We continue to the mining town Bjørnevatn which has gone through dramatic changes the last years. The mines were closed in 1996 and were reopened again in 2009. Here we gain an insight into 90 years of mining history. We continue our trip to the viewpoint “Storfjell” where we get a nice view over the fjord.

KS 32 Sightseeing in Pasvik valley and visit at National Park Centre
A guided trip by buss to Pasvik valley. The valley is one of the last wilderness areas in Europe and known for its big brown bear population. You get both, a nice nature experience and information about the interesting history of this area right beside Russia. We follow the Pasvik river (border river to Russia) all the way to Svanvik. Visit in the National Park Centre which provides information about fauna and flora. After that we visit a viewpoint where you can see our neighbour in Russia, the mining town Nikel. Next stop is “Bjørkelund Gård” where we will be taken 150 years back in time. We serve coffee/tea before returning to Kirkenes.
Can be combined with a river boat trip on the Pasvik river (KS 17).

KS39 Midnight sun at Grense Jakobselv
The small village Grense Jakobselv is located close to the Arctic Sea. Only a narrow river separates the village from Russia. Along the bor der you can observe both Norwegian and Russian border guards. Grense Jakobselv is located about 60 km East of Kirkenes. The tour to Grense Jakobselv is a wonderful nature experience and on a short scale you will experience fjord, mountains, the ocean and the fertile valley. We will be passing King Oscar II’s chapel from 1869, the vicar’s house and take a coffee break on a sandy beach by the Arctic Ocean. Are you tough enough to take a bath in the Arctic Ocean right beside Russia? Don’t forget your bathing suit.
